Aloha from Hawaii!
My name is Norma Meis, and I am a piano teacher with 35+ years of playing and teaching experience. My son, Joshua, and I created 92PianoKeys to provide students with an example of what a song could sound like upon completion, which is helpful whether it has been assigned by a piano teacher or if the individual is self-taught.
We enjoy a wide variety of music and therefore have included many different styles and genres on our channel. If you are interested in learning to play a particular song, check the description for a link to the sheet music. We've also included the estimated difficulty level in the video title.
And yes, our Bosendorfer piano does in fact have 4 more keys than the customary 88. Enjoy the musical journey!

Hello! Which book would you recommend to use after this one?
There are many different books and sheets that I use when a student is at the intermediate level depending on their tastes and preferences. Here are a few ideas for you: In the Classical category: Alfred's Masterwork Classics Levels 1 - 10, Essential Piano Repertoire edited by Keith Snell Levels 1 - 10, (In each of these series you could probably start at about level 4.) In the Jazz category: Jazz, Rags & Blues by Martha Mier Books 1 - 5 (could start about book 2-3), Especially in Jazzy Style by Dennis Alexander Books 1 - 3 (could start in book 2). Both Martha Mier and Dennis Alexander have nice series of more lyrical compositions that they call "In Romantic Style" or "Romantic Impressions" or "Especially in Romantic Style" with several books in each set. (could start in book 2) In the Pop/Movie/Broadway category: Alfred's Greatest Hits Level 3 (in their Adult series) offers some very good arrangements. In the Sacred category: Alfred's Sacred Performer series, many great books to choose from, look for those that have the Intermediate label. For Technique: Alfred's Technical Skills Levels 1 - 10 (could start about Level 4), "Burgmuller, Czerny & Hanon" edited by Ingrid Jacobson (start in book 1). And that's a very brief offering of some of the books that I use with students. There is so much excellent music and resources available to us now, the options are endless, but that should give you a starting point for some to consider. Those books are available from Amazon.com and SheetMusicPlus.com and often will show preview pages. Also, I do digital downloads from MusicNotes.com and SheetMusicPlus.com when I'm looking for a specific song. There are some videos on my You Tube Channel from "Masterwork Classics", "Essential Piano Repertoire", "Jazz, Rags, & Blues", and "Alfred's Greatest Hits" to give you an idea of some of those. They are easy to find through the "playlist" option. You could also browse through my "Intermediate" and "Late-Intermediate" playlists for ideas as well. All the very best to you as you continue your piano journey! --Norma

Which is more difficult, this or Mozart's Rondo alla Turca from Sonata in A Major, K. 331?
I think the Rondo alla Turca is more challenging. --Norma
In the book it says moderately slow this nothing moderately or slow lol
I just prefer it at this tempo, but pick a tempo that works for you that you can be consistent with all the way through the piece. Slow is just fine! --Norma
Norma! I did it, sort of. I played this piece at a recital. A lot of mess ups, but I was nervous. Thank you for all your help. ruclips.net/video/Yx3Ev3_YxHY/видео.htmlsi=Iv-braQTZcmqxsiq
Yay!!! Soooo good!!! You should have seen me applauding at my computer!! You have been seriously practicing and working hard to get here! Good job!! And don't fret about some missed notes here and there, you kept going and didn't let it rattle you. Excellent performance! I was impressed that you had the entire piece memorized! That's an intricate lengthy one. And you kept your shoulders relaxed, had a nice curved hand shape, and bottom of page 2, with the right hand cross-over and left hand repeated note, great tempo! Well done!! You should be very proud of your accomplishment and performing in public as an adult takes courage! Celebrating with you! --Norma
Thank you much! I can’t tell you how much this channel has helped me. Honestly, it’s been such a huge method of support. My next goal to tackle is the one your son plays on your channel - “Go the Distance,” from Hercules. I’m about halfway through it but man, it is really hard. So kudos to his playing because he makes it look easy. Again, thank you so much.
@@joshs6536 So grateful that I could be of help on your piano journey! I LOVE the "Go the Distance" song from Hercules! I'm going to make a point of playing it today. It feels so inspirational and encouraging and I like the range of the piano that it encompasses. Good for you making the effort with that one, it's well worth it! --Norma
I think I'm having a huge problem. I'm always off rhythm. I always try to play a piece 100% correct but without knowing the right rhythm. So I did this one and came here to see what the real piece should sound like and... Yeah mine was disaster. Should I do something about it or it will get better by the time? Also you're the best❤
Thank you so much! Are you counting? Have you tried a metronome or a backing track? Are you playing slowly enough to allow yourself time to play the rhythm correctly? Or are you unsure of note values and which ones get more or less time? If we can pinpoint the "why" then we can probably come up with some solutions for more accurate practicing and better results. But yes, it will get better and easier as you progress. --Norma

Not a rhapsody, and not a symphony, it’s just a simple thing. Not an intermezzo, not a string quartet, so it’s not hard to sing. Makes me wanna wiggle, makes me grin and giggle like some silly loon. Not a toccata, not a sonata, just a good old tune!

Beautifully played. I’m learning this piece. I notice in the last few bars it looks and sounds like you are keeping all the notes in an arpeggiated way, ie building the chord note by note right through the end, although the sheet music has each note being played separately. Have I missed something or is this a stylistic thing you’ve done here? Thanks so much.
I checked my music stock and I don't currently have a copy of this book on hand so I was unable to look it up for you and see what I did. If anyone else out there wants to join the conversation, please chime in. Thank you, Norma

I had been following the Alfred method books from Level 1 up until now, reaching around page 40 of Level 2. I'm not sure what happened, but this year, after dedicating over 2 hours a day to practice, including scales, arpeggios, and repertoire beyond the method book, I experienced a significant leap in improvement. I decided to challenge myself by attempting to learn 'Für Elise' from Alfred Level 3, and to my surprise, I was able to master it and play it quite well at a decent tempo. Perhaps motivation played a significant role, as I truly desired to play the piece. Today, when I revisited this piece from Level 2, I was astonished to find that I could learn it in under an hour-it felt almost like sight-reading with a bit of practice. I'm genuinely amazed by my progress.
So exciting! Celebrating your progress with you!! You put in the time and effort and focused practice and you are reaping the rewards!! Yay! --Norma
Gosh I just hate these "blue" songs. They're just so soulless. But thanks for the video it helps a lot
So glad that the videos are helping you get through these. --Norma
I'm learning this piece but I'm confused about something. In page 130, last staff , first measure, how does it count as 4/4 tempo. I see the first two notes make 2, and the next four eighths would make the other 2, but what about that sixteenth note?
There is an accurate 4 counts in that measure. The dotted 1/4 notes get 1 1/2 counts, then four 8th notes get 2 counts, and the two 16th notes get a 1/2 count. So all together that makes 4 counts, but it's a bit difficult to see since the 16th notes are in the midst of the 8th notes. Hope that makes sense. --Norma
@@92pianokeys40 I see now. Thanks for explaining. I missed that sixteenth note.
Very niiice, thanks for sharing ❤

Everything is better on a Bosendorfer!! We LOVE our piano!! --Norma
The chords in this piece are confusing, is the G# a non chord tone, and 1st measure they use a Bflat, A7b9? So confused with these chords.
This song is in the Key of D minor and the D minor harmonic scale has a Bb and a C# in it so that is why those particular accidentals show up in this piece and in the key signature. The primary chords in the key of D minor are Dm (D, F, A,) Gm (G, Bb, D) and A7 (A, C#, E, G). You can see the foundation of those chords fairly easily in the left hand (bass clef). If I were creating a lead sheet from this piece, I would base the chord symbols off of the notes that are in the left hand. Yes, the G# is not a part of the D harmonic minor scale and it is not a part of the primary chords so I can see why you are trying to figure out what in the world is going on. We need someone else to join the conversation and give a label to the G#. I'm not sure if it would simply be considered a "passing tone" in the melody? --Norma
